Google Business Profile suspended: what to do
A practical, honest checklist based on Google's own help pages. No tricks: a suspension is lifted only when Google accepts your appeal, and you can file it only once per decision. So fix the cause first, then appeal with good evidence.
1. Check what kind of problem it is
- Suspended or disabled profile: Google says it "may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow our guidelines". The appeals tool shows the decision, its date, the reason and whether it can be appealed.
- Account restricted: if your whole account is restricted, all its profiles are suspended. Appeal the account first (My accounts page), then the profile.
- Reviews disappeared or edits rejected are different problems, but the causes overlap with the ones below.
2. Do not do these things
- Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google says so explicitly on its suspension help page.
- Do not keep editing the name, address or categories while you wait.
- Do not pay anyone who "guarantees" reinstatement. Only Google decides.
3. The most common causes, from Google's guidelines
- Extra words in the business name. "Including unnecessary information in your business name isn't permitted, and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile." Taglines, city names, services, phone numbers or "Open 24h" in the name are the classic trigger, especially right after a name edit.
- Ineligible address. Virtual offices and mailbox addresses are not eligible; P.O. boxes are not acceptable; co-working offices need signage, staff and customers during business hours.
- Service-area business showing an address where customers are not received.
- Duplicate profiles: one profile per location.
- Mismatched details: name, address and phone that differ between profile, website, signage and documents.
- Categories used as keywords, or too many categories.
- High-scrutiny categories (locksmiths, plumbers, movers, garage doors, lawyers and similar), where Google applies extra checks and often asks for video verification.
4. Gather evidence that matches the profile
Google lists official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates, and utility bills (electricity, phone, water, internet). "For any documents you submit as evidence, check that the business name and address match the profile." Add photos of permanent signage and of the premises in operation.
5. File one good appeal
- Fix the cause in the profile (or undo the edit that triggered it).
- Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool, pick the profile and the decision.
- Upload all evidence and write a short, factual explanation. "Appeals can only be submitted once."
- Wait for Google's email. Do not open a second profile meanwhile.
