Disabled or suspended: which one is your profile?
Google uses both words, and the fix starts in the same place: the appeals tool. The difference is mostly in the reason Google gives, so read that first.
Not sure which rule you broke?
Start with the free suspension risk checker: answer 13 quick questions and get a risk score plus the Google rule and fix guide behind each point. Nothing is sent to us.
Or let a person do it: ProfileRescue checks your listing and website against each guideline, ranks the likely causes for your case and writes the appeal text plus an evidence checklist, in English and Spanish, as a PDF for €29 (launch price, €49 from 1 Dec 2026). We cannot reinstate profiles or remove reviews, and we say so plainly.
What Google says
- Google says it "may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow our guidelines", and points owners of both to the same appeal process (Fix suspended or disabled profiles).
- In its policy overview, Google gives a specific case for disabled: "If we determine that your business doesn't exist in the location you claim, Google will disable your profile" (Business Profile policies).
- The same page gives a specific case for suspended: a business address set to a P.O. box "will have their profile suspended". If the whole Google account is restricted, "all Business Profiles associated with that account will be suspended".
- For both, Google says content and appeals may be rejected while the profile is disabled or suspended, and the profile must be reinstated first.
Which one is it in practice?
Google doesn't publish a longer definition than that. Don't guess from the label: open the appeals tool. It shows the date of the decision, the reason, a link to the policy, whether it can be appealed and its status.
- Reason points to the location or "business does not exist": your evidence has to prove a real, staffed place at that address, or you switch to a service-area set-up. See suspended for the address and virtual office.
- Reason points to the name, categories or other content: fix the content first. See keywords in the name.
- Everything in your account is suspended at once: it is probably an account restriction. See account restricted.
How to appeal once the cause is fixed
- Fix the cause on the profile first. Google says the name and address on your profile must match the name and address on your documents (Fix suspended or disabled profiles).
- Gather proof Google lists as examples: business registration, business licence, tax certificate, utility bill. Photos of permanent signage and of the premises help.
- Open the appeals tool from your profile. It shows the date, the reason, a link to the policy and whether the decision can be appealed.
- Submit once, carefully. Google says "Appeals can only be submitted once", and the evidence form has to be completed within 60 minutes of starting it.
- Do not create a new profile while you wait. Google tells owners not to.
Step-by-step wording: what to write in the appeal (template + evidence checklist).
FAQ
Is a disabled profile worse than a suspended one?
Google doesn't rank them. Both go through the same appeals tool, and both must be reinstated before new content can be added.
Why would Google say my business doesn't exist?
Google says it uses sources like user reports and licensed content. If they suggest no business at that address, it can disable the profile. Proof of a real, signed, staffed location answers that.
Should I make a new profile instead?
No. Google says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business.
