Law firm or lawyer: Google Business Profile suspended
For lawyers, a suspended profile means missed calls from Google Maps. Here are the rules that matter for your trade, based only on what Google publishes.
Not sure which rule you broke?
Start with the free suspension risk checker: answer 13 quick questions and get a risk score plus the Google rule and fix guide behind each point. Nothing is sent to us.
Or let a person do it: ProfileRescue checks your listing and website against each guideline, ranks the likely causes for your case and writes the appeal text plus an evidence checklist, in English and Spanish, as a PDF for €29 (launch price, €49 from 1 Dec 2026). We cannot reinstate profiles or remove reviews, and we say so plainly.
Is this a "high-risk" category?
Google does not publish a list of high-risk Business Profile categories, and nobody outside Google knows suspension rates per trade. Here is what Google does publish for lawyers.
The Guidelines for representing your business on Google have a section on individual practitioners. A lawyer can sometimes have a profile separate from the firm. If a firm has only one public-facing lawyer, Google says the firm and the lawyer should share one profile. For Local Services Ads, Google lists state bar licence checks for each lawyer in the firm (screening rules).
The rules lawyers break most easily
- Keywords in the name. A name like "Car Accident Lawyer Miami | Garcia Law" adds services, a city or hours. Google says unnecessary information in the name could result in suspension. The fix is the name on your sign, van and licence, for example "Garcia Law". More on names.
- Firm vs lawyer profiles. Several profiles for the same office (one per practice area, or one per lawyer when only one lawyer meets clients) break the practitioner rules. Duplicates.
- Address. The office must be a real place where clients are received, with signage. Virtual offices are ineligible unless staffed during business hours. Virtual office rules.
- Phone numbers. Google says the number must be under the business's direct control, and call-tracking numbers that redirect callers elsewhere are not allowed. Lead-generation call centres and shared numbers break this.
- Categories. Google asks for as few categories as possible, describing what the business is, not every service it offers.
- Reviews. Discounts for reviews, asking only happy customers and reviews from staff are all fake engagement under Google's contribution policy. Reviews that disappear.
Evidence that fits your business
- Business registration and, where your state or country requires one, your trade or professional licence, in exactly the name on the profile.
- A lease or utility bill for the office, and photos of the office sign and reception.
- Bar registration showing the name used on the profile.
- Invoices sent to customers with the same name, phone and address as the profile.
How to appeal once the cause is fixed
- Fix the cause on the profile first. Google says the name and address on your profile must match the name and address on your documents (Fix suspended or disabled profiles).
- Gather proof Google lists as examples: business registration, business licence, tax certificate, utility bill. Photos of permanent signage and of the premises help.
- Open the appeals tool from your profile. It shows the date, the reason, a link to the policy and whether the decision can be appealed.
- Submit once, carefully. Google says "Appeals can only be submitted once", and the evidence form has to be completed within 60 minutes of starting it.
- Do not create a new profile while you wait. Google tells owners not to.
Step-by-step wording: what to write in the appeal (template + evidence checklist).
FAQ
Is law firm or lawyer a high-risk category on Google?
Google publishes no official list of high-risk Business Profile categories. The individual practitioner rules in the guidelines apply to lawyers, and Local Services Ads checks bar licences.
Can I put my city or "emergency" in the business name?
Only if it is part of your real-world name, used on your sign, vehicle and paperwork. Otherwise Google lists it as not allowed, and it can lead to a suspension.
Should I create a new profile after a suspension?
No. Google tells owners not to create a new profile. Fix the cause and appeal the existing one.
