Service-area business suspended

If you go to your customers instead of them coming to you, Google treats you as a service-area business. The rules are simple, but they are often broken by accident when the profile is first set up.

Not sure which rule you broke?

Start with the free suspension risk checker: answer 13 quick questions and get a risk score plus the Google rule and fix guide behind each point. Nothing is sent to us.

Or let a person do it: ProfileRescue checks your listing and website against each guideline, ranks the likely causes for your case and writes the appeal text plus an evidence checklist, in English and Spanish, as a PDF for €29 (launch price, €49 from 1 Dec 2026). We cannot reinstate profiles or remove reviews, and we say so plainly.

Google's rules for service-area businesses

Typical mistakes

Evidence that fits a service-area business

Google's video verification page gives examples for service-area businesses: street signs or landmarks near your base (for a home-based business, the neighbourhood), your tools and equipment, branded clothing, unlocking a branded vehicle, or a permit, invoice or utility bill that matches the business name. The same items make good photo evidence in an appeal.

How to appeal once the cause is fixed

  1. Fix the cause on the profile first. Google says the name and address on your profile must match the name and address on your documents (Fix suspended or disabled profiles).
  2. Gather proof Google lists as examples: business registration, business licence, tax certificate, utility bill. Photos of permanent signage and of the premises help.
  3. Open the appeals tool from your profile. It shows the date, the reason, a link to the policy and whether the decision can be appealed.
  4. Submit once, carefully. Google says "Appeals can only be submitted once", and the evidence form has to be completed within 60 minutes of starting it.
  5. Do not create a new profile while you wait. Google tells owners not to.

Step-by-step wording: what to write in the appeal (template + evidence checklist).

FAQ

Do I need a shop to have a Google Business Profile?

No. Businesses that visit or deliver to customers can have a profile with the address hidden and a service area set.

How big can my service area be?

Google says it should not extend further than about 2 hours' driving time from where the business is based.

Can I have one profile per city?

No. Google allows one profile per real location; a service-area business keeps one profile and lists the areas it serves.
