How to reset your iOS app rating on a new release
Español · Deutsch · Polski · Français
On the App Store you can reset your app's overview rating when you release a new version. The reset is permanent once the version ships.
Steps in App Store Connect
Required role: Admin or App Manager (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
- In Apps, select the app.
- In the sidebar, click the app version you are about to submit.
- In the Reset Overview Rating section, select Reset rating when this version is released.
- Click Save.
The rating resets when that version is released. Until then you can clear the option (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
What the reset does
- It applies to all countries and regions at the same time (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
- Your product page shows a message that the rating was recently reset until enough people rate the new version (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
- Once the version is released, you can't restore the previous rating (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
- For universal apps, it applies only to the platform version you reset. App bundles can't be reset (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
- You can see the reset date in the Distribution tab under Ratings and Reviews (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating).
What it doesn't do
Written reviews are not removed and keep showing on the App Store (App Store Connect Help: Reset an app overview rating). If the newest written reviews describe a problem you haven't fixed, a reset leaves those reviews on top of an empty rating. Apple recommends resetting sparingly (Apple Developer: Ratings, reviews, and responses).
A sensible order
- Ship the fix for the problem behind your low ratings.
- Reset with that version, and say what you fixed in the release notes (Apple: product page recommends telling users about fixes in What's New).
- Reply to the reviews that reported the problem (Apple).
- Prompt engaged users with the system rating prompt (rules).
Google Play: no reset
Google Play ratings don't start over with a new version. The Play rating is weighted towards recent ratings, so it reflects recent changes over time (Play Console Help: View and analyze your app's ratings and reviews).
